Aside the fact that corgis serve herding purpose; they have been found to be wonderful companions [as pets] in the home. They share good times with other family pets and are also friendly with children. However, there are some interesting facts about corgis we like to share with you:

  • The ancestors of corgis were introduced into Wales by Fleming weavers as far back as 1107. As a matter of fact, they share ancestry with Siberian huskies.
  • Corgis are known to be very intelligent dogs. Although they may be about the shortest dog breed but they are quite smart; corgis are ranked as the 11th most intelligent dogs.
  • Foray into the seat of power. On different occasions, corgis have been seen to have some level of authority some other dog breeds will probably be envious of. Sometimes back, an 11-year Pembroke Welsh corgi- Sutter Brown by name- was officially named 'the first dog' by California's governor, Jerry Brown. More interestingly, corgis have been an integral part of the royal family with Queen Elizabeth II having owned a sum total of 30 different corgis since her early years.
  • Corgis have double coats of hair and they usually undergo shedding twice every year.
  • Welsh legend has it that Corgis have historical affiliation with fairies.
